Can you use a wooden bat in little league? - best little league bat

My son is 12 and plays baseball league. It is very high, 12 years 6 feet. It is a very strong boy, and bats are only a few metal too short and too easy. He wants to use one of their wooden bats, but he said his coach, he was not entitled. Is that true? I always thought they could bat out of wood, but sometimes discouraged because of the severity used.
